Frantically Christmas shopping, I found myself in a quaint boutique in Colorado – desperate to find the last gift on my list.
While quickly browsing the sale table I came across this simple necklace.
Recognizing the quote from Maya Angelou – one of my favorite writers – I picked up the wrapped necklace and carried it with me while I perused the store for my last gift.
I found a cute pair of socks and rushed to the counter to pay.
I laid the socks down and forgetting I had the necklace in my hand the young girl behind the counter said:
“Would you like to purchase the necklace also?”
“Oh goodness, I completely forgot I was holding this thing. No thanks, I’ll pass.” I replied.
I passed the necklace over the counter and proceeded to reach for my wallet.
The young girl looked at the necklace and then back at me. She studied us both for what seemed like hours and said:
“Are you sure? I think it fits you well.”
“Hmm. Quite the sales girl” I thought to myself.
Then she smiled and said this to me:
“I’ve seen lots of people come and go today – your light shines bright”
Who IS this girl?
I stood speechless for a moment. Self-judgement immediately spoke up and I wondered who put this girl up to such a flattery job.
But right there – in the sweetest moment between two complete strangers – I experienced the power of everything I teach and write and believe.
Wellness comes from within.
When the world swirls out of control and plans become altered and circumstances leave us wondering and darkness clouds are thinking.
Nothing can dim the light which shines from within.
We need not look outside of WHO we are and WHOSE we are to find the light.
It’s inside of us and we have been called to share it.
To spread it
To be the light.
So I smiled back at the young girl and said:
“Ok, I’ll take the necklace”
And here I am reminding us all again.
Keep shining your light, friends.
