You could say this past year has been a Journey into Truth for me. The word Truth in itself has caused me to really question “What is Truth?” One thing I’ve learned is that there are many voices in my head. They speak to me constantly. Some are fact. Some are false. Why do I tend to listen more to the voices of shame, voices of condemnation and voices of falsehood? This question to myself was the jumping point in my journey. I knew there was a voice – One True voice. I wanted to find my way into that Truth.
Have you ever questioned your ideas of what truth really is? Below is a list of ways I’ve learned to Stand in My Truth. The journey is not over and my pursuit to walking towards Truth has become a moment by moment. Choosing to focus inward and leaning into who I am as a Child of God has made the difference in perspective for me – my hope is this insight will help you to do the same.
What is it? Your story. I’m not enough. I’m ashamed of where I’ve been or come from. What is your Truth? How long have you held on to your story in shame? How long have you suppressed the truth – trying to cover up the many milestones that have brought you to the here and now? Get clear about this. Be willing to release your story – the truth. When you release and feel the sorrow, the pain, the regret, the happiness and the weight you have carried it is then that you can move forward. The past is gone. Be in the Now.
Authenticity is key. Express who you are – not just vocally. Find your energy. What moves you? What causes you to close in? Be willing to engage in expression. You have something to say. Your story is an important part of who you are and it’s time to share it with the world.
Mental health depends so much on how we think. Understanding the connection between our thoughts and how they affect our actions is key. Did you know historical drama is passed on through DNA? Emotions your parents felt before you were even conceived can be passed down to you and affect your DNA. The key here is to recognize the patterns and be aware so that you can change or embrace them. Our bodies and minds speak, they dance, they are partners – listen to them. There is a language that is giving you information.
This one is a tough one for me. Vulnerability is a term I struggle with. Why would I ever want anyone to know my deepest, darkest secrets? Because it sets you free…that’s why. Carrying the weight of guilt and shame each and every day is a heavy task. Stress sets in, we try to hide and we run from truth – the very thing that will set us free. Keeping secrets will block communication and it will block our ability to trust. Being able to surrender these and let them go will make your journey to truth a much lighter one. In the end will all just want to be heard and we all just want to be loved. Knowing that others have secrets too will allow us all to live in a state of surrender.
Living in a state of judgement is heavy. Each and every day we view ourselves and others through a field of perception. We hear things about others and about ourselves – we form opinions – we hold onto the stories we’ve heard and then we began to look for proof to justify the decision we’ve just made. It’s the cycle of our mind and it’s real. We have to learn to let go of perception and rely only on truth. There are always facts and there are always falsehoods. The key is to look for the proof of the truth. Feel the feelings that come and then let them go. Live in a state of non-judgement and learn to look for ways to forgive. Each moment is new and letting go of the past is key to forgiving.
Who are you? Who should you be? This healing phase comes through inward reflection. I’ve used writing to move my energy around – I believe when we write our thoughts on paper they become tangible. We can find our true purpose if we will read the thoughts that we write to ourselves. We tend to take time away from finding ourselves by helping others. While helping others is beneficial in living and could very well be our purpose – we have to be intentional about giving life to our personal energy flow in order for that energy to overflow to others. Stop giving your power away and let go of anything that tries to take your power. Reclaim yourself stand firm in the truth of who you are called to be.
