You may have heard all the buzz around this intermittent fasting trend. Truth is – it’s no trend at all. We see fasting used many times throughout the scriptures and even in ancient history.
But in recent years we’ve seen fasting used in the wellness community to bring a variety of health benefits to our physical bodies as well. Here’s the thing:Fasting, while absolutely brings spiritual benefits – is it possible that God has equipped our bodies with an internal on/off capability as well?To allow our bodies time to rest, to heal, and aid in repair and regeneration of cells?Fasting should not be used as a tool to RECEIVE anything from God, but that even in our eating habits we humbly submit our desires for anything else other than HIM.
Intermittent Fasting can be used as a tool in this way. I’ve found it to be very useful in my personal wellness journey.Maybe you will too.A most popular method I use in my wellness programs is the 16:8 Fasting method.Essentially, you’ll consume your food for the day within an 8-hour window and allow your body to FAST for the remaining 16 hours. For example – You may ‘break your fast’ at 11am, eat wholesome snacks, then eat your last meal for the day at 7pm. You’ll fast until the following day at 11am.
Some of the health benefits we see are:
This is just one tool we can utilize. Of course, Fasting is not the end all be all of the tools. We use this in conjunction with whole foods nourishment, physical activity, and prayer for guidance on how to best take care of ourselves.
