Our minds have a way of seeking knowledge. And not just knowledge – we want a clear path. A complete road map. The blueprint. The How-to. The answers and ultimately the truth. We often see things as right or wrong, good or bad and while life is a contrast we rarely see in either-or fashion.
Perhaps this is the seat of uncertainty.
The area we’d rather not explore – the unknown.
But what if this is the very place God is asking us to go?
There is a desire in all of us to know the truth. To find the prize. Or the absolute. To solve the constant in a world that changes so quickly. If we look at the story of creation we see a beautiful picture of a connection with God. God created man to be in a relationship with him. But sin marred this relationship and immediate separation from God occurred. Scripture reveals to us that as a result of this separation from God we are all born into sin. We are all sinners.
Psalms 51:5 NLT “For I was born a sinner— yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.”
Romans 3:23 NLT “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”
Because of sin, because of our separation from God – we spend our lives seeking freedom, seeking truth and ultimately seeking re-connection with our Creator.
Maybe you have spent your life looking for this freedom. Grasping at ideas or dogmas. You may have even said, “Just tell me what to do.”
Friend, God has made a way for us to reconnect with him. He provided payment for our sins through Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is our way to reconnect with God. He even calls himself The Way in John 14:6; “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”
Paul speaks of faith being the conduit by which we are reconnected.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
Our faith is rooted in the assurance of God’s Word. It is the certainty when we are uncertain – this is not a contradiction. The writer of Hebrews penned it this way:
“What is faith? It is the confident assurance that something we want is going to happen. It is the certainty that what we hope for is waiting for us, even though we cannot see it up ahead.” (Hebrews 11:1 TLB)
When our eyes can’t see, when the world around us is shifting and changing ever so quickly, when the path of our life goes against our understanding and when all we know to do is take one step at a time – that’s faith. And it’s not anything we can muster up on our own. Our faith comes from God alone. This is not merely a name it and claim it dogma. This is resting in the hope that God will keep every promise He’s given. It’s the courage within to move forward in action.
So in the uncertainty – in the midst of the unknown. We have a source, a connection, a hand to hold – we’ve been given a constant source of power, of strength and of wisdom. The fulfillment we seek is God. The small voice that nudges us from within is God. The coincidental happenings throughout our day – confirming our path – is God. The peace we feel when we plug into creation is God. He’s the answer to every question we ask.
He’s the only absolute in this world full of fragmented people and broken paths. Count on Him and connect with Him. We walk by faith – He leads the way.
